Westbury travelled to play Corsham in the latest West of England League Wiltshire and Gloucestershire Premier 2 Division hoping to win and do a double for the season over the opposition, and, as ever, trying to pull away from the relegation zone.
Westbury made one change from last week’s home defeat against Thornbury with Sayeed Ibrahim coming in for Dan Gill.
When Westbury arrived at the ground they were greeted with a damp wicket after a large rainstorm had also arrived during the morning.
Westbury won the toss and immediately inserted the home side. They made an excellent start by taking 5 wickets with the total at 64, but then there was a fine stand for the sixth wicket of 33 between Davis and Roberts but when the total reached 97 Roberts was out, caught by Esau for 9 off the bowling of Coles. Shortly afterwards Davis was dismissed for 43 with the total at 101.
The Corsham Foley then with the lower order took Corsham to 151 for 8 wickets when the rains came again and with the wickets, having taken a lot of water; the captains and the umpires agreed that the match could not continue.
With the abandonment, next week’s match against league leaders Cheltenham at home takes on more significance.
