Westbury entertained Dumbleton who were promoted from the Gloucestershire Division last season, in the latest West of England Wiltshire and Gloucestershire Premier 2 Division, hoping to continue their winning run with wins over Corsham and Cheltenham over the last two weeks.
Westbury made two changes from last week’s win against Cheltenham, with Joe Willis and Dan Gill coming in for Alex Senneck (who stood down as Westbury captain during the week) and James Hudson. Michael Coles took the captain of Westbury first eleven team from Alex Senneck.
Westbury won the toss and decided to bat first. They made a bad start, with the top five batsman out for 54. Then there was an excellent partnership of 83 between Gill and Ibrahim, but when the total reached 137, Dumbleton struck by having Ibrahim out leg before by Salmon for a season’s highest score of 30. Gill was joined at the wicket by Scott and they pushed the score along by running quick singles. When the total reached 170, Dumbleton struck by having Gill caught by Tremain for an excellent 52 made off 90 balls in 117 minutes. After his dismissal, Scott was joined by Lucas and he was out shortly after, dismissed leg before by Green for 0 with the total at 170. Scott was then joined by the debutant Willis and with no undue alarms, they took the total to 194 for 8 wickets off their allotted.
When Dumbleton batted they made a flying start in search of 195 to win. When the total reached 33, Westbury struck by having Hodnett caught behind by Scott of the debutant Willis for 11. Salmon was then joined at the wicket by Ridsdale who was brilliantly caught by Ibrahim off the bowling of Mills for 23. This was Mills’ 15th wicket of a very productive start to the season. Salmon, with the help of the batsman, eventually took Dumbleton to a comfortable six wicket win and continued their very good start to the season. At the end of the innings, Salmon was unbeaten on 73.
