WILTSHIRE Wildlife Trust will be holding a seed planting workshop at Westbury library next week, and is running a bag designing competition for school children across the town.
Wiltshire Wildlife Trust is running a half-term ‘Spring Seed Fun’ session at Westbury Library on Thursday 18th February, from 2pm to 4pm.
All are welcome to the workshop where there will be a chance to have a go at seed planting, as well as making seedling pots and ‘seed bombs’ – used to sow seeds in hard to reach areas.
‘Design a bag’ competition
Primary school children are also being challenged to design a bag with their own environmental message on.
Hills Waste Solutions has donated a cotton bag for every Westbury primary school pupil to personalise with a unique design. Members of Wiltshire Wildlife Trust’s waste team will be visiting schools during the coming weeks to launch the competition.
Wiltshire Wildlife Trust community engagement officer Jessica Thimbleby said, “Since the introduction of the charge in October 2015, some supermarket chains have said requests for plastic bags have reduced by almost 80%. Using the children’s new cotton ones will help save money and spread the message about reusing bags, instead of reaching for plastic ones.”
Each school will nominate the best designs which will then be entered into a grand final for the chance to win a Wildlife Watch Membership of the junior branch of the Wildlife Trust.
Wiltshire Wildlife Trust has been working with children and residents in Westbury for the past year, and is planning a fun-packed day on Saturday 12th March to celebrate its time in the town. The winners of the grand final ‘Design a bag’ competition will be announced at the event.
Wiltshire Wildlife Trust is one of the UK’s leading environmental charities, working to create a sustainable future for wildlife and people.
