Westbury made the trip down the A303 to face Yeovil for the first time since their relegation from Southern Counties.
Westbury stumbled across a familiar problem of starting slowly and a poor first 20 minutes led to Westbury falling behind to a penalty and two converted tries.
Westbury then decided to start playing and with the scrum beginning to dominate and some good offloading between the forwards. They managed to hit back through a short range try from Captain Chris Gillam, Nigel Kershaw converted to bring Westbury back into the game. The 1st half finished with Westbury dominating possession and decimating the Yeovil scrum.
The 2nd half continued to show a similar pattern to the end of the 1st with Westbury controlling possession. Unfortunately they were unable to convert this into points with the Yeovil back line putting pressure on Westbury’s backs allowing them no time or space.
With 60 minutes on the clock and Westbury pressing for a try, Yeovil counterattacked following a Westbury error and crossed in the corner for a try following a final pass that was bordering on being forward. Undeterred Westbury continued to attack and were rewarded for their pressure when No 8 Will Newell powered over for a try, Kershaw’s conversion attempt just fell short. This left the score at 22-12 and despite continued pressure from the away side this is how the game finished.
Bar the first 20 minutes this was the best performance by Westbury this season and the travelling support were very pleased with the way Westbury fought back.
