WESTBURY Youth FC has been celebrating after two teams won the Forest Green Rovers Football Club Sixes Tournament in their age category.
The youth sixes tournament saw over 40 teams take part at the New Lawn Stadium, home of Forest Green Rovers who played in League Two of the English Football League last season. Westbury Youth U10s and the U11s both won respective competitions, making it a double for the club.
“In the under-11s, this group of kids only started playing in Oct 2023,” said manager Ben Ayre. “We had only five kids when we started, now we have 16. Some had never played before. This has been a fairytale. The expectation was that we would be knocked out in the groups having never played at this level before. The aim for me as the coach was simply to see what level we are at.
“Then the impossible happened, losing only one of the six games and only conceding two goals and winning the tournament!
“The parents are so happy with the style of coaching. Thank you to everyone who helped me and changed this around.
“The U10s, coached by Luke Hames and Kurt Hammonds won their age group as well, winning a tight semi-final on penalties and going on to win the final.
“Both teams have put Westbury on the map of football talent. All the hard work behind the scenes from everyone at the club has really paid off and now both teams are champions.”
