THE Rotary Club of Westbury’s town quiz was won by a team calling themselves The Rocky Mountaineers.
Team members Yvonne and Malcolm Maunder, Mike Shorey and Sue Chinnock, regular and enthusiastic quizzers, clinched victory over 10 rounds of questioning with a stunning score of 85 points from a possible 100, to beat The Westbury Lions’ team ‘Cheval Blanc’, with 79 points, into second place.
The event, held at the Laverton on the evening of 26th September attracted 14 teams from the town and surrounding area and raised £400, £200 of which will be donated to the Wiltshire Air Ambulance and the rest distributed among local youth charities supported by the Rotary Club.
Reflecting on the evening, club president Tim Westlake said he was delighted with the turnout and thanked all those who took part to make the event such a success. He was particularly grateful for the support from Dentons, Westbury Co Op Foods, Trevor Pictor of the White Horse Pottery, Chalford House Hotel and the Rocky Mountaineers who generously donated half of their monetary prize.
The club will look to build on the success of the evening and hope to attract more teams to next year’s quiz.
