TRIBUTES have been paid to a local councillor, well-known for carrying out her service to the community with enthusiasm and humour.
Linda Conley, who was the Wiltshire councillor for Ethandune and represented the villages in the Westbury area, died last week.
Linda had been a councillor since 2003, first for Dilton Marsh at the former West Wiltshire District Council, then for Winsley and Westwood from 2009. She was also the portfolio holder for waste at Wiltshire Council.
In May this year she was elected as the councillor for Ethandune.
She was also a governor of Dilton Marsh Primary School.
Cllr Russell Hawker said, “She was well known for her efficiency, enthusiasm and humour. One of her first actions as the cabinet member for the environment at West Wiltshire District Council was to go out on the waste and recycling rounds with the crew on a bin lorry. And in the council chamber on another occasion, she gamely answered a question about Polish signs in Trowbridge by making the whole response in Polish and earning a round of applause from her fellow councillors.”
Cllr David Jenkins said, “As a councillor she played a key role on the area board representing the surrounding villages. Linda had a wonderful personality together with a great character and was always willing to help the community.”
