THE service to the community by outgoing Westbury town councillors Ian Cunningham and Brenda Pyne who stood down before the elections, has been praised.
Cllr Cunningham (pictured) joined the council in 2012 and has been very active, attending all committees and working groups. He was mayor in 2018-19 and has chaired the highways, planning and development committee for the last two years.
Cllr Brenda Pyne (pictured) was co-opted in June 2017 and has been a member of highways, planning and development, finance and the neighbourhood plan committees. Brenda also chaired the delegation of services committee while it was active (it was temporarily on hold pending Wiltshire Council election results).
A platform for community groups, Christmas in Westbury, said on its Facebook page. “Today we raise a glass to Ian Cunningham!
“Having been at the core of this Christmas project for the town, among many other projects in the community, Ian is finally stepping down from his role as an independent town councillor.
“We’ve worked with Ian Cunningham for a number of years and can honestly say that Ian has been an asset to the community of Westbury. His passion, enthusiasm and his will to ‘get the job done’ has aided the town to go from strength to strength (alongside many of his fellow councillors and council staff).
“[He has acted] as chairman for Westbury Festival, a town councillor, a governor for more than one school in the area, town mayor (all 100% volunteering roles), and someone who has gone out of their way to help many residents in the community.
“At Christmas In Westbury, Ian has helped us to achieve creating events unlike many you may have seen in the area. He even helped script the Christmas film we created in 2020!
“We hope you join us in wishing Ian all the best for the future.”
The team went on to say, “We’d also take a moment to recognise cllr Brenda Pyne who is also stepping down from Westbury Town Council. Brenda’s pro-active involvement in our off-the-wall ideas has also enabled us to achieve what some would regard as the unachievable. Brenda’s volunteer work for the community has also been something that deserves a round of applause from the community. A raised glass for Brenda this evening too! Another deserving person who has helped the community in so many ways. “
Residents commented on the post, thanking both councillors for their efforts and wising them luck in their future ventures.
