TV archaeologist Julian Richards will be taking to the stage in Westbury to share the inside story on a 50-year career that stretches from Stonehenge to Patagonia.
Julian will be at the Laverton on Friday 3rd April to give a talk that will raise funds for two Westbury charities, the Heritage Society and the Westbury Leos.
It will not be Julian’s first involvement with Westbury’s heritage. Last year he gave his expertise to help the Leos and the local community with the restoration of the long lost Quaker graveyard, sharing the findings at a talk in Westbury last year.
The archaeologist and broadcaster on both TV and radio, well known for the popular BBC series ‘Meet the Ancestors’ has worked on a wide range of archaeological projects during his long and varied career and has a particular passion for Stonehenge.
As an author, he has also published books on a range of historical subjects and is responsible for the current Stonehenge guidebook.
Julian, who lives in Dorset, is committed to sharing the joys and excitement of archaeology, a wonderful combination of dirt and discovery, especially with younger people. He has worked with civilian and military communities at Larkhill Camp and delivered history and archaeology projects to over 50 schools in Wiltshire and Dorset.
He explained, “Archaeology is all about us, finding out about our human past where every find, every object has a story to tell. And I love storytelling.
“I’ve been so lucky to have spent most of my life working in archaeology. I still have the same passion that I had when I went on my first dig and I want to share that passion with everyone. If you’re lucky I may even give a live demonstration of ‘how to shovel properly’ !
A Career in Ruins will take place at the Laverton in Westbury on Friday 3rd April at 7.30pm. Tickets are £7 and are available online at www.westburyheritagesociety.org.uk or on the door.
