A WESTBURY-based social enterprise, which redistributes unwanted office equipment to good causes, has been recognised for their work with two national awards.
Waste To Wonder, run by Michael Amos, who is also a Westbury town councillor, won the International Green Champion Award (service category) and the Green Champion of Champions Environment Award in the Green Apple Environment Awards 2023, held at the Houses of Parliament.
The company has now been entered into the international Green World Awards being held in San Paolo Brazil in March next year.
As well as providing equipment internationally, the company has supported local causes including Fairfield Farm College, Westbury Community Project, Westbury Area Network and the Hope Nature Centre.
Michael said he is “buzzing” from the double win. “If I am honest, the shock of winning the Champion of Champions Award hasn’t worn off,” he said.
“We were delighted to win the Green Champion Award and when our name was read out again, it definitely took a few seconds to sink in – I think the first thing I said to my team was a four letter one, that isn’t fit to print!
“It was a great experience and we are looking forward to getting involved as Green World Ambassadors and attending the Green World Awards in Brazil in March. The awards shine a light on our clients’ positive sustainable choices and we couldn’t be happier to be recognised.”
Waste to Wonder has to date equipped over 1,300 schools in 32 countries and prevented over 2,500 tonnes of equipment going to waste annually (with 97% reuse). The company has donated over £30million worth of equipment to enhance lives in some of the most disadvantaged communities in the world.
Michael added, “We also deliver significant carbon savings through reuse with our CO2 emissions savings, six times our operational carbon impact, making us the first neutral carbon zone platinum carbon neutral company in our sector in the world.”
Michael is also attending COP28 in Dubai as a delegate with the British Chambers of Commerce, with Waste to Wonder hosting their own COP28 Fringe Event in Dubai on Friday 8th December.
