Sat. 12th January. Toolstation Premier. Westbury United 3-0 RGSG
Westbury maintained their top 3 position with a comfortable victory over fellow promoted side Roman Glass at Meadow Lane.
Such was United’s dominance keeper Ed Baldy as well as defenders Dan Price and Dan Jordan only had to do routine work while full backs Jordan Pinder and Steve Hulbert were attacking more than defending.
Jamie Jordan was outstanding in midfield, Will Stead had his most effective game so far and Jake Hiscocks’ return to the club saw him play as well as last season. The front 3 of Dan Kovacs, Ricky Hulbert and Callum Demkiv all put in a great shift too.
After a fast paced opening where Westbury did everything but score, including St George keeper Josh Dempsey making the first of a number of excellent saves to deny Kovacs, it was Jamie Jordan who netted the opening goal with a fine finish from the edge of the box.
Dempsey kept the score down before the break with a fine save when Demkiv broke through 1 on 1 after a wonderful through ball by Jamie Jordan.
But Dempsey was helpless as Kovacs scored 2 penalties within 10 minutes of the restart, the first came on 50 for a foul on Kovacs himself and the second on 54 for handball.
With victory now all but assured it became a matter of how many could United score. Ricky Hulbert cut in from the right and had an effort blocked with the ball breaking to Stead whose 25 yarder went narrowly wide.
That it remained 3-0 was down to Dempsey making another great save to deny Jamie Jordan after a brilliant, skilful piece of play and he then did even better to prevent Callum Demkiv adding a fourth when Demkiv found himself clean through again.
The final action saw George Bendle break into the box but, as with Demkiv, he found Dempsey in top form.
