WESTBURY United are through to the semi-final of the Wiltshire FA Premier Shield following their convincing win at Swindon Town last month.
The club’s joint manager, Lewis Porter, has talked to WHN about United’s chances of success when they play Swindon Supermarine FC this week, on Tuesday 22nd March.
“We’re under no illusions that this will be an easy game for us, we’re playing Swindon Supermarine who sit two leagues in front of us, but we will always back ourselves”, Lewis said. “We’ve had such a great season and we’ve got a good set of players who are comfortable playing at that level, so I don’t see why we can’t put in a good performance. It’s going to be tough game but I reckon we can cause them a few problems with the quality we have.
“Our focus is a bit split at the moment as things are getting so close in the league. We can’t lose track of where we’re at and risk losing out on promotion, but we will shift focus this week and get into cup mode for sure.
“Myself and Ricky (Hulbert, joint manager) have had a few conversations about how we approach the game”, Lewis added. “But as cliché as it sounds, we have to approach each game as it comes. Obviously, we can’t play exactly like we do in the league, but we’re really good at what we do and we will make it as uncomfortable as possible for them. We’ve got a few tricks up our sleeves, but we don’t want to change things too much.
“We’ve got so many dangerous and solid players in the squad; it will be a good challenge.
“The more people that can come down and support us the better. I know this isn’t the most accessible game for our fans as it’s at Royal Wootton Bassett FC’s ground on a midweek, but it would be great to see some additional support cheering us on. We’ve always got a good number of hardcore fans that follow us, any boost to that would be great. It’ll be a great occasion and I hope we produce something special for you all.”
Westbury United face Swindon Supermarine in the Wiltshire FA Premier Trophy at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground on Tuesday 22nd March, with kick-off at 7.45pm.
