A disappointing afternoon for Westbury as they let a half time lead slip in this match which was played on a stodgy pitch. A disappointing afternoon for Westbury as they let a half time lead slip in this match which was played on a stodgy pitch. Both sides traded chances in the opening 15 minutes before United scored on 17; the Larks had a man over in attack however their move broke down and Ryan Bole broke forward then sent in a great cross which found the onrushing Joe Stradling who powered his header into the net.
Conditions worsened towards half time and, as with earlier in the half, there were opportunities at both ends. Home keeper Alfie Kelsey saved from Matt Morris while Dan Price, Jake Hutchings and Will Thomson all made blocks to preserve their side’s advantage. Gary Higdon and Charlie Walton both went close to doubling Westbury’s lead; however the next goal went to the hosts when Harley Prior produced a fine finish to equalise.
United almost regained the lead soon after; Harvey Flippance hit a great strike that flew just wide and Stradling flashed the ball across the face of goal. Then Sam Jordan found the side netting just after coming on as a substitute. Athletic got into their stride and Price made several vital interceptions; however nobody could do anything about Brad Norris’ winning goal in the 76th minute.
Walton, Jordan, Higdon and Price all had efforts to try and snatch a point but only Price forced Kelsey into a save.
