‘FINANCIALLY struggling’ Westbury United FC is working towards more regular openings of its bar and clubhouse to bring in much needed revenue.
A volunteer from the club, Terry Morgan, told White Horse News there are plans for bingo and quiz nights and they are seeking darts, pool and skittles teams to play in the refurbished clubhouse.
In a recent update Terry said, “Firstly we at Westbury United FC would like to sincerely thank Jeff Perkins of White Horse Blinds – a long time Westbury United FC Supporter – who very kindly donated and fitted the new vertical blind in the doorway between our C M Motors clubhouse bar and its back kitchen.
“Also a very big thanks to Mark Norris of Norris Electrical – another long term Westbury United FC supporter who very kindly donated his time to very professionally make safe some of our very old plugs and sockets.”
All revamp work was done in time for the screening of last month’s FA Cup final.
Terry said, “It was ready to serve the many Westbury people who very bravely decided to ignore the ever changing English weather to support the efforts of numerous people and to be able have a beer and something delicious to eat from Tammy’s Tasty Treats catering cabin and then watch the FA Cup final from our big external screen set up by Mark Nicholls of Alert Systems, in our Roy Dutchman Stand.
“We are also working very hard to get our ground and clubhouse and bar open on a more regular basis. This is to help raise very much needed funds to help keep us afloat.”
A car boot sale has started on Sundays on a weekly basis – gates open at 8am and close at 4pm, the bar and catering cabin are open for drinks and food from 11am and 8 30am respectively, with both closing at 3 30pm.
Terry said, “We will also be looking to hold Sandy’s Bingo Nights on a monthly basis – the first session is being organised for Saturday 26th June.
“We also have ideas to have quiz nights and are actively looking for darts, pool and skittles teams to play when they are allowed to start again with Covid restrictions being lifted – hopefully from June 21st.”
