A litter pick organised by the Tidy Bratton group saw 16 volunteers come together to clean up the village.
The group cleared litter from Bratton’s roads, pavements, paths and ditches, filling 16 bags with rubbish and assorted objects such as an exhaust pipe, iron bar and scrambler bike tyre.
“I was pleased that we only collected one used nappy this year,” said a volunteer. “We have been known to collect more in the past. There were still plenty of wet wipes wrapped up in the brambles, though.”
Volunteers were supported by Idverde, who lent them equipment and cleared away the collected rubbish.
Volunteer Angie Cole said, “It was quite dangerous clearing the Edington end of the B3098 because traffic comes along that road at quite a pace sometimes and you have to be alert all the time.
“It was really good to see Richard’s grandson and Ro’s granddaughter helping out. It is very rewarding when we see young people taking pride in their environment.”
The volunteers cleaned up the village as part of the Great British Spring Clean, the nation’s biggest mass-action environmental campaign. Each year, thousands of volunteers clear litter from streets, parks and beaches across the UK.
