A team of volunteers have been working to create a designated community area in an orchard in Bratton.
The small team of orchard volunteers, led by Steve Crosby, recently created a flat area in Reeves Orchard where people will be able to gather during the increasing number of events that are taking place there.
“The work, which is not quite finished, has been backbreaking,” said Steve Crosby, project organiser. “Timbers have had to be lugged into place, then cut to size and bolted in position; bricks have had to be dug up and put behind the timber walls to reinforce them and much more.”
Parish Councillor Eddie Cole added, “None of this work could have happened without the fantastic job Mike Button did of levelling the ground at the beginning of the process.”
A volunteer from the group said, “The team is creating a fantastic, community space for us all to enjoy both now and well into the future. The village is incredibly lucky to have so many people who are prepared to work so hard for the benefit of the rest of us.”
Once completed, the space will serve as an area for the community to use and enjoy. Dan Loughran, who organises the wassailing gathering in Reeves Orchard, said that the Morris dancers are already looking forward to using the space at the event.
