Saturday 15th June. West of England League Wiltshire Division. Hinton Charterhouse versus Westbury at Hinton Charterhouse
Westbury travelled to play Hinton Charterhouse in the latest West of England League Wiltshire Division, hoping to put last week’s home defeat against Devizes behind them.
Westbury made four changes, with James Haggaty (who joined up from New Milton), Alex Senneck, Kane Scott and Tom Lucas coming in for James Mawson, Osmond Shallow, Matt Bracher and Luke Dilena.
Hinton Charterhouse won the toss and immediately decided to insert Westbury into bat. The bowlers made a devastating start by having half the Westbury side out for 54, but then came a match-winning partnership of 96 between Graham Hudson (49) and the returning Alex Senneck (39) . They took the total to 150 when Charterhouse had Hudson bowled by Stu Kingwell for a fine 49.
Shortly afterwards Senneck was out for 39, stumped by Clark off the bowling of the Hinton Charterhouse spinner Chris Antrobus. After their dismissal the Westbury innings subsided to 210 all out.
Will Metcalf (3-18) had the best figures, ably supported by Antrobus (3-35 off 10 overs).
When the Hinton Charterhouse innings started, they struggled against the Westbury attack by losing 7 wickets for 99. Then the rain came and ended their innings leaving Westbury winners by 58 runs on the Duckworth Lewis method.
The Hinton Charterhouse captain Tom Baker made a good score of 35 against the Westbury bowling attack.
This game was played in a great atmosphere and credit goes to all players.
Westbury’s next game is against local rivals Warminster at home starting at 12.30pm.
