AFTER weeks of terrible weather and postponed matches, Westbury travelled to Warminster RFC after the Westbury pitch was unplayable.
From the first whistle, the game was evenly contested with both teams giving away penalties. After about 20 minutes, the deadlock was broken. With some good rucking and mauling, Warminster took advantage of a good overlap and make it 5-0 with their fly-half missing the conversion.
Straight after Warminster scored the 1st try of the game, Westbury were on the attack in Warminster’s half. After some good running from Westbury 2nd row Dan Travis and prop Dan Haines, Westbury sadly knocked it on and a scrum was awarded to Warminster.
The Warminster fly-half kicked the ball out of their area after winning the scrum. After catching the ball on the bounce, Westbury winger Jonny Dolman turned the Warminster 14 and gained 15 yards before getting tackled and winning a lineout for Westbury.
On the 30 minute mark, Westbury were again under attack in their 22. After giving away another penalty, Warminster decided to tap and go and went over the line to make it 10-0 at half time. In the second half, Westbury were on the attack in Warminster’s half. After being awarded a penalty, Westbury full-back Jack Brooks attempted to make it 10-3 but was unsuccessful. Again Westbury were on the attack, after getting a good pass from Aaron Vaughan. Jonny Dolman was marked by his opposite number and landed him on his backside after a good hand-off ,and then Dolman was tackled in Warminster’s 22.
After losing the ball, Westbury were awarded a scrum after Warminster knocked it on, Westbury captain Simon Higgins picked the ball of the back of the scrum and charged over the line to make it 10-5 with Jack Brooks kicking the conversion to make it 10-7. Westbury were then awarded a penalty after the Westbury centre Nathan Brown was hacked down by a Warminster 2nd row, Jack Brooks kicked the penalty to make it 10-10.
Warminster were awarded a penalty in the last 30 seconds of the match and had a chance to make it 13-10 and win the match. The Warminster fly-half missed the kick which Aaron Vaughan kicked into touch.
