What great news for Grassacres Hall. We now have a ramp fitted by Ross Hillman and funded by Westbury Area Board.
The Welfare of the Elderly in Westbury is a charity which owns Grassacres Hall in the park. The hall was built in the early 1980s for the use of the elderly of Westbury and surrounding area.
Over the last two years, the secretary and myself have been raising funds to update the hall. We have had a new kitchen fitted, courtesy of Magnet Kitchens, Trowbridge; new flooring, blinds and a new kitchen window (with the other windows being replaced in the new year). This has been possible because we have raised various funds from Persimmon, Aster Homes, Co-op community funds, town council and area board of Westbury and many others.
At the present time, the hall has various events and clubs for the elderly. It has a day centre, which operates on a Tuesday and Thursday, providing a safe haven for the elderly. It is somewhere for them to have a three-course lunch, entertainment, gentle exercises, and interesting speakers, so preventing loneliness. If they need special help and advice, we are able to point them in the right direction.
The charity also lets out the hall to groups such as The Leg Club on Monday, Tia Chi Wednesday morning, Movement for the Mind, Memory Café, Westbury Shed and others.
