WESTBURY Area Board handed out over £7,000 in community grants at its meeting recently.
Grants were given to Westbury Youth Club, the Westbury Leos, West Wilts Gymnastics and Fitness, and Westbury Youth Football Club.
Westbury Youth Club was awarded £2,796 towards the ongoing costs to run the club for its 80 members aged between 13 to 19-years old. Leader of Westbury Youth Club, Beth Mullins-Watts said, “This will help run the club until July next year.”
Westbury Leos were given £500 towards their project to restore the 300-year-old Quaker burial ground in the town, located behind solicitors Pinniger Finch & Co. The group has been working on the site since early this year and have discovered that John Matravers, who left £1,000 in his will to set up Matravers School, is buried on the site.
West Wilts Gymnastics and Fitness was given £1,000 to help fund the installation of safety pits filled with foam to support gymnasts and trampolinists in training. The new safety pit will also make gymnastics more accessible for people in the community with specialist needs.
Westbury Youth Football Club was awarded £2,750 to help improve security following theft of maintenance equipment and damage caused by vandals. The money will also be used to introduce a water supply to improve toilet facilities.
