A major new campaign to secure a long-awaited Westbury bypass has been launched with residents being urged to have their say.
Westbury Town Council has opened a community survey on the future of a bypass, alongside a campaign featuring posters, banners and car stickers calling for a “Westbury Bypass Now”.
“For many, there is probably no greater issue than a bypass for Westbury,” said the council. “We need to think whether that is to provide relief from relentlessly heavy traffic, attracting inward investment or opportunities for economic development and new jobs.
“Whatever your view is, now is the time to express them by completing and returning our survey.”
Over the last few months, a team comprising the MP Dr Andrew Murrison and Wiltshire and town councillors have been meeting to investigate options following the publication of Highway England’s long-awaited report, the ‘M4 to Dorset Coast: Strategic Connectivity Study’, which is available on Wiltshire Council’s website.
“The team’s preliminary work is done,” said the council. “So it is now your turn as we are genuinely interested in your views, and we invite you to complete our survey.
“Nothing has been decided, and everything is still on the table. We are buzzing about the real possibility of Westbury getting some funding to kick start the process of the development phase in 2026/2027. This leg of the study will be the ‘Yarnbrook to Warminster’ solution and out of that should come the options paper for Westbury.”
Along with the community survey, car stickers have been produced calling for a ‘Westbury Bypass Now’ as well as posters for shops and businesses to display and some large banners are also available upon request.
The council added, “Dr Andrew Murrison, Wiltshire and town councillors intend to show Wiltshire Council, Highways England and the Secretary of State for Transport just how serious Westbury are about attaining our long-awaited bypass, and we need YOU to help in doing that. It’s time to have your say.”
The survey opens at 9am on 5th January and closes on 31st January 2026.
Westbury residents are encouraged to fill out the survey, by scanning the QR code.
