Westbury car park charges to rise from September

Increased charges at Wiltshire Council-owned car parks in Westbury will come into effect from 1st September. 

The changes will bring an average 20 per cent increase in parking charges, with a further increase coming into effect in 2028. 

Parking will operate from 7am to 7pm Monday to Saturday in short-stay car parks, while long-stay car parks will operate from 8am to 6pm. Sunday charging will operate from 10am to 4pm. 

In Westbury, the new charges will apply at High Street, Warminster Road and Westfield House car parks. 

Residents can park for free for one hour as Westbury Town Council currently pays a subsidy to Wiltshire Council. 

At High Street Car Park, parking will cost £1.30 for two hours and £7.80 for all day. At Warminster Road and Westfield House car parks, it will cost £1.20 for two hours and £6.50 for all day. 

Season ticket charges will also increase in line with the revised tariffs, although these remain discounted against the normal daily parking charge. 

Cllr Martin Smith, Wiltshire Council Cabinet Member for Highways, said, “Parking charges haven’t risen in Wiltshire since 2022, and given significant inflation during that time, we had to raise them now to help pay for the increasing costs in providing the service and to reinvest in our wider transport infrastructure, including our rural bus network. 

“That said, we have listened to feedback we received during the consultation and made several changes to our original proposals as a result. 

“These changes strike a balance between supporting our town and city centres, managing parking effectively and ensuring we can continue to invest in transport and highways services across Wiltshire. 

“The changes also reflect our commitment in Our Wiltshire Plan to improve public transport options across the county.”
