WESTBURY CC hosted their final home game of the season at the Frampton & Babel Oval on Saturday 23rd August against Hinton Charterhouse.
Hinton won the toss and elected to bowl first. Westbury got off to a flying start scoring 20 runs off the first two overs before Javon Grosvenor was out caught by the wicketkeeper. Hinton opened the bowling with their South African overseas professional fast bowler who did all the damage in the reverse fixture. Today he was no match for Adam Alger who dispatched him for six over point.
Westbury’s innings had highs and lows much like their season with the score falling to 75-4 before a fantastic 89 run partnership between Aidan Wicks and Fraser Moore got the innings back on track. Unfortunately, both players fell just short of 50 with a mix up leading to Wicks being run out for a well-made 43 runs before Moore was also out soon after to a very good catch for 49 runs. Luke Dilena scored 18 runs before Westbury were all out for 204, once again unable to bat out their full 50 overs.
Hinton Charterhouse got off to a great start in reply with neither of Westbury’s opening bowlers able to find the breakthrough, reaching 100 for the loss of just one wicket. Westbury always have a great team spirit and belief they can fight back from any position. Young Rory White stepped up and removed both Hinton openers before an outstanding bowling spell from Tom Lucas with bowling figures of 10 overs, three wickets for just 14 runs got Westbury right back into the game.
Further late wickets from Grosvenor and White along with a run out from Grosvenor made for another thrilling finish. Hinton Charterhouse reached their target with five balls remaining to win by two wickets and left Westbury ruing missed opportunities.
