IT’S time for the people of Westbury to get their skates on as a new roller disco is taking place at the Leighton Recreational Centre on Thursday 4th August and Thursday 1st September.
Brought to you by the team behind Frome Roller which runs at the Cheese and Grain in Frome, a roller disco is the perfect way to get the kids off the sofa and moving about this summer holidays but also great fun for all the family.
Come and enjoy 90 minutes of fun and games including dodgeball, bulldog and limbo, all set to great music. Skates are provided free if you don’t have your own. And for anyone feeling rusty, there’s a 30 minute skating basics session beforehand.
Frome Roller marshal and skating fanatic, Nigel Mclachlan, is excited about the new events. “We’re really looking forward to a great time in Westbury. And don’t worry if you’ve never skated before, our friendly marshals will help get you started – and pick you up again if you take a tumble!”
Leighton Recreation Centre manager, Keith Brunsden, said, “We’re pleased to be adding something a bit different to our existing line up of summer holiday activities. Get your summer on a roll, and if this proves popular, we’ll certainly look to make it a regular feature.”
One parent from Frome Roller said, “This is a great family night out with all ages and abilities catered for. I have been bringing my niece for a few months now and her skating has improved so much. Last week my mum even came down and had a go – took her back to her youth!”
Parents and non-skaters are welcome to watch, although be warned, you might be tempted to join in!
Safety is taken seriously, with marshals trained in first aid, and wrist, knee and elbow pads and helmets available on the night.
Costs: Skating basics + roller disco (£5 per skater); Roller disco only (£4 per skater). Free skate hire. Tickets and skates are available on the door or can be booked in advance by emailing nigel.mclachlan@googlemail.com
