Almost 100 people attended a free community event featuring international athletes as a Westbury gym celebrated its 15th anniversary.
Ironworx Performance celebrated the milestone with an Olympic weightlifting showcase from three international athletes, a functional fitness pairs competition and a performance summit with guest speakers.
“It was our 15th anniversary for the gym, which was obviously a milestone,” said gym director Lee Salter. “We just wanted to put on an event that made the 15th anniversary worthwhile.
“We’ve had three international lifters doing a little bit of a showcase, albeit it’s 32 degrees, they’ve done the best they can. They’re all peaking for big comps coming up.”

Two of the weightlifters were former training partners of Lee’s from his time competing for Great Britain.
The event also included a functional fitness competition with mixed, over-50s and male categories.
“It went down really well, it was really supportive,” said Lee. “We had a few comments that people were really nervous before they came and then realised that everyone was doing the same thing.
“They learned a lot, which was fantastic. It was very hot, but very good.

“It was just something to put on for the local community and hopefully anyone and everyone who came enjoyed it.”
