WESTBURY did its bit for Children in Need last week, with fancy dress, cake sales and raffles all part of the fundraising activities.
Money is still being donated for the BBC’s annual Children in Need appeal, but the current total raised on Friday 15th November is already over £31million – an on-the-night record for the event by almost £5million.
Westbury’s mayor, cllr David Windess, had his legs waxed at local beauticians Beauty Retreat on Saturday to raise money for the appeal.
On Friday, students at Matravers School spent the day in their pyjamas, as did pupils at Westbury Leigh Primary School. Pupils at Westbury Infants School had a non-uniform day while pupils at Bratton Primary School dressed up as their favourite heroes.
Pupils at Bitham Brook Primary School held stalls during their lunch break including a card stall, a paper planes stall, as well as holding a dance competition. The day raised £240 which was slightly higher than the amount raised last year. Pam Williams from the school said, “The children worked incredibly hard and with great enthusiasm to raise the money and organise their activities.”
Fairfield Farm College enjoyed an afternoon of activities including a tricycle slalom course, spotty horse riding, cake decorating, face painting, and hair braiding.
Westbury Leigh Primary School held a Pyjama Day to raise money for Children In Need. Children and staff donated £1 each and came to school in their onesies, pyjamas and dressing gowns!
The children were also lucky enough to receive a visit from their very own life size Pudsey Bear.
After school there was a Cake Sale in the School Hall. Each Year Group and the Cookery Club ran their own stall and prizes were awarded to the Year Group who raised the most money.
