2019 could be described as a tale of two halves for the Westbury Ladies.
They report, “The 2018/2019 rugby season saw us win the league and remain undefeated at home for three seasons. The hard work of the last three years had all come together. However, it wasn’t without its challenges; some team members relocating and being out with injury meant that some newer players had to step up to fill some big shoes.
“We worked hard over the summer months to recruit new team members. We also saw a few players retire and take up a new role within the team.
“When the 2019/2020 season began, it was with a new coaching set up and we rightfully entered a higher league. This meant a lot more travelling, with the furthest game being over two and a half hours away.
“A pre-season highlight was when we were joined by Sam Graham, a second row for the premiership side Bristol Bears, who joined us to take a training session.
“We started this new season well with some early wins. However, the step up to a higher league has started to take its toll, with key players out with injuries, meaning some players are being asked to play out of position. Despite this, we are all still playing with the same determination and smiles on our faces.
“We are always looking for new players, no matter the experience. To find out more about what we are up to, to meet us and watch the Facebook live match reports, like our Westbury Ladies Facebook page and give us a follow on Instagram.”
