Westbury Junior School is one of many to sign up to the #BigPledge London Calling community challenge this year and the school has certainly gone to town with their efforts.
The children are really enjoying the challenge and each class is keeping track of distances covered individually to see which class and year group is the most active. Lots of the children are engaged in running a km between lessons, which has been great fun for them and a fantastic way to stay active and increase their exercise levels.
To date the school has covered over 2,500km and is well on track to complete the full 8,400km distance and beyond.
As an added extra bonus, Westbury Juniors was one of 10 schools to be selected at random to receive a free hour of sports coaching from a qualified sports coaches from Wiltshire Council.
Liam Cripps, Westbury’s community engagement manager said, “As in previous years, the Westbury community area has really pulled together in a tremendous effort to perform well above much larger communities in Wiltshire. Currently sat comfortably in 2nd place only to Trowbridge, the community has already covered over 18,000km.
“It is fantastic to see Westbury Juniors, Dilton Marsh primary and Fairfield Farm College involved in the community challenge, along with Leigh Park Community Centre and a number of other teams locally.
“The #BigPledge is a great way to keep active, to monitor your own activity levels and to enjoy some friendly competition with our neighbouring communities.
“To make it easy for everyone to join in and contribute I created TeamWestbury which residents can still join by going to www.wiltshire. gov.uk/bigpledge following the instructions and remember there is no space between TeamWestbury. You can backdate your steps, cycles, swims and runs to June 5th when the challenge started.”
