WESTBURY Lions Club members will be looking forward to Sunday 13th October, which will see a double dose of healthy activity for local people to participate in and help raise money for local causes.
Starting at 11.00am, walk departing 11.15am from the White Horse Country Park, the 10k run will take participants along the Lower Westbury Road to Bratton, before travelling down Court Lane and left to Capps Lane. Just before reaching the A350 runners will cross a short field back to the country park for the finish.
Now into its third year, Westbury Lions are hoping attendance at the event will top last year’s 128 runners. Advanced entries are already up on last year’s figures, with interest coming from clubs and runners as far afield as Bristol and Salisbury.
Event organiser Lion Nick Best said, “Part of the appeal of this run is due to the level route. With no big hills to climb amateurs and club runners alike can run side by side and really enjoy the course. We have made a big effort this year to ensure runners have a chance to get to know the route in advance, with copies of the course being published on our website and available from the Lions bookshop.”
For those not interested in working up a sweat on the run, the club have also arranged a more sedate activity with a leisurely three mile walk from the country park to the nearby Alpaca Stud Farm near Bratton and back.
Organiser Lion Mike Pearce said, “The walk takes in some lovely views of the White Horse along Lower Westbury Road, and with the owners of the Alpaca Stud kindly opening their gates for participants, we can ensure children and adults will be able to meet the baby alpacas and see how cute they are!”
Due to the sensitive nature of the Alpacas, walkers with dogs will be asked to remain outside the farm during the visit.
If you are interested in taking part in the 10k run, you can download an entry form from www.westbury lions.org.uk and enter in advance for £8, or alternatively turn up on the day and register before 10.30am for £10. Advance entry for the walk is not required, but voluntary donations of £5 are requested for anyone wishing to come along.
