LOCAL MP Andrew Murrison has been elected by MPs to chair the influential Northern Ireland Affairs Select Committee, scooping 330 of the 530 votes cast.
The MP for South West Wiltshire said, “It’s a huge privilege to be elected by my colleagues to chair this important committee. Recent events mean that Northern Ireland will have particular prominence in the months ahead and I look forward to taking a leading role in Parliament.”
Andrew Murrison is a former Northern Ireland Office minister and has also served as a defence minister. In the last parliament he was a member of the Joint Select Committee on National Security Strategy.
