Westbury hosted North Dorset on Saturday 1st March high on confidence following their defeat of the league leaders the week before.
Keen to build on the strong second half of the previous week, Westbury kicked off looking for an early lead. Unfortunately this did not happen and the home side let themselves be drawn away from their game plan and also 10 points down, after nine minutes following a converted try and a penalty this is how the score remained until half time.
Westbury then took the lead when Jack Brooks raced in under the posts following some good handling by fly half Aaron Vaughan and centre Duncan Weir, Brooks converted to give Westbury a 14 point lead. Westbury then had to absorb a lot of pressure which was relieved by scrum half Alex Brown’s clearance kick. The kick was chased well by Simon Rose and when the visitors fullback allowed the kick to bounce Rose gathered it and sprinted in from the half way line to score his 2nd try of the match. Brooks again converted to leave the score 21-10. Brooks them added a penalty to take the lead to 14 points with three minutes left.
Westbury will be pleased with a second consecutive comeback although they will look to start playing for 80 minutes instead of 40, to relieve the stress they are putting the coffin dodgers hearts through.
