WESTBURY Rugby Club has kicked off the 2014/15 season with a new kit and are encouraging new players to get involved, and more locals to support the teams.
With a few matches under their belts already, both senior teams will play their next fixtures on Saturday 11th October, wearing new kit supplied by Raging Bull sportswear.
The club train twice a week, and are on the lookout for new members. Player and spokesman Simon Higgins said, “We are looking to recruit players of all abilities, whether experienced or not, everyone is welcome. Do your duty and uphold the honour of your town – Westbury Rugby Club needs you! Report to White Horse Country Park on a Tuesday and Thursday night 7-8.30pm.”
New recruit Jack Brooks said, “We put out two teams on a Saturday with players of all abilities. The social side of Westbury is unreal and there’s no doubt you will make friends for life that will support you on and off the pitch. As a young lad, joining the club is the best thing I’ve ever done. Not only for the enjoyment of the sport but the great laughs we have too.
Westbury RFC’s First Team play in the Dorset & Wilts 1 South League, while the Second Team play in Dorset & Wilts 3 North; both in the South West Division.
First team captain Chris Gilliam said, “I’m feeling positive about the season ahead. With Gareth Vaughan and Jack Bates taking over the coaching and implementing a way of playing that suits our strengths as a team, I think we will shock a few teams this year. The players’ heart, pride, and attitude cannot be faulted. We as a team are showing so far that even in adversity we have each other’s backs, and will stick together and keep our heads up throughout every game.”
The club train at Westbury White Horse Country Park from 7pm-8.30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. To find out more email westburyrugbyclub@gmail.com
