2019 has been a good year for Westbury Rugby Club.
The men’s team finished 3rd in the 2018/19 league and the ladies team won promotion in their league. Things were looking good for an excellent year in 2019.
The men’s team have started the year the way they finished the 2018/19 season, pushing on from finishing 3rd in the league where they just missed promotion by 4 points. This season, promotion to the higher league is a reality.
So far this season they have achieved 9 league wins and were winners of the Dorset and Wilts 1st XV Plate in the final against Colerne RFC, winning 25-17 last month. They are currently top of the league and unbeaten. Since last Christmas, the men’s team have only lost one game and have scored 763 points and conceded 231, but the real target is to gain promotion by winning the league.
“Our club is always looking for new players 18 years and above at all levels of skill. You will be welcome to training on Thursday evenings from 7pm.
We are continually working to improve our facilities, with help from all of our sponsors and volunteers. The clubhouse has had an overhaul inside, with new carpet and newly-upholstered chairs. It’s been redecorated and new windows and blinds have been added for the benefit of our members and guests.
Our hope over the next year is to revitalise some of our other facilities for our members’ enjoyment.
None of this would be possible without the tireless work of our volunteers and members who put in hours of hard work during their spare time. We are always looking for volunteers and members. If you would like to enjoy a friendly atmosphere, then come along and join our ever increasing number of supporters at Westbury Rugby Club, Knott Field in the White Horse Country Park and become involved.
The next game is on Saturday 4th January away to Combe Down 2nds. Their next cup match, Southern Counties Junior Vase Semi Final, is against Aldermaston on 25th January 2020.
