Wed. 6th April. Hellenic League Supplementary Cup Westbury United 7 Hallen 0
FOLLOWING Westbury United being knocked out of the Challenge Cup last month, the club was entered into the Hellenic League Supplementary Cup, alongside five other defeated clubs from the Challenge Cup first round and 16 defeated clubs from the Challenge Cup second round.
Managers Ricky Hulbert and Lewis Porter took the opportunity to rest several key players, give appearances to fringe squad members and try out others in different positions throughout the match, although they surely couldn’t have foreseen defender Jake Hutchings scoring a hattrick from midfield in the 2nd half! Hallen currently sit bottom of the Hellenic Premier League.
The score was goalless until nearly the hour, a combination of a flat display by both sides and a number of fine saves by visiting keeper Lloyd Kelsall and a few saves by United’s Ed Baldy.
Then United went into overdrive from the moment Harvey Flippance finished off the post to open the scoring. Jack Biddescombe rifled against the crossbar and Hutchings shot over, then after Kelsall had saved a Ryan Bole free kick, Will Thomson headed in Jamie Jordan’s corner on 66’.
Bole could have had a hattrick were it not for Kelsall and the crossbar, however his teammates had better luck. Hutchings struck the third on 69’ and Biddescombe was composed to add a fourth a few minutes later.
Another excellent Kelsall save went for a corner which JJ whipped into the six-yard box where Dan Price nodded the fifth.
Westbury were now battering Hallen from all angles and fine play by Ricky Hulbert led to Hutchings netting his second for 6-0 on 78’.
Flippance and Will Thomson should have both scored again before Hutchings fired in his hattrick goal in the closing stages after Kelsall had denied Flippance.

Cup game
rearranged
Following their win against Hallen, Westbury United were due to face Stonehouse Town in the next round of the Supplementary Cup, but this was called off as Stonehouse Town players were attending a wedding and as a result, could not raise a side. The fixture has now been moved to Wednesday 20th April.
