Saturday 31st August – West of England League Wiltshire Division – Westbury v Swindon at Westbury
Westbury entertained Swindon in the last West of England League Wiltshire Division 2019 season, hoping to end their 2019 season with a win and possibly replace their visitors in second place.
Westbury made two changes from last week’s disappointing result away at Warminster, with Michael Coles and Richard Mills returning in place of Connor Colbourne and Ben Harber.
Westbury won the toss and decided to bat first. They opened with the regular openers of Mills and Gill and they made a bad start when, with the total at 4, Swindon struck by having Gill caught behind by Harris off the bowling of Connor Taylor for 0. Soon after, Westbury found it difficult and they subsequently lost a further five wickets for 80 runs including Mills who made 51. After his dismissal, the Westbury innings subsided to 110 all out. Connor O’Shea (4-26) had the best figures ably supported by Adam Tucker (3-14).
When Swindon started they made a flying start with Williamson leading the way. On reaching 40, Westbury struck by having Kill caught behind by Scott off Hudson for 13 and took two further wickets, even though Liam Tucker and Adam Tucker took Swindon to a seven wicket win. This was a disappointing result but overall it was a reasonable good season, ending in third place in the league.
