We ended 2019 with a very enjoyable Christmas party, including a buffet supper, Secret Santa presents and entertainment provided by the West End Baptist Community Choir.
We continue to enjoy listening to some very interesting speakers. More recently we learned about the history and making of gloves by Miss Mundy who has worked all her adult life in Dents glove makers and still continues to work there.
On a completely different subject, we discovered the intricacies of the amazing creatures – the honey bee. Courtesy of Mr David Newell a local beekeeper, we learned about the anatomy and physiology and the various functions of the different types of bee. His talk was accompanied by fascinating slides.
Unfortunately the January meeting had to be cancelled on the night. The February meeting will see us involved in a craft activity, possibly with an Easter theme. Ann Scrope-Howe who will be our guest speaker has asked that we each bring a pair of scissors and a large eye needle. The current programme is currently being compiled, with more interesting speakers being planned and possibly trips.
