WESTBURY United has had a year to remember with the first team playing Southern League football for the first time in the club’s history as well as the creation of a new Ladies’ and Seniors’ team.
The chairman of Westbury United Sam Gooding said, “The club has enjoyed an extremely successful year in 2022 both on and off the pitch. The men’s first team clinched promotion to the Southern League for the first time ever and has continued the success by currently sitting in eighth place in the league at the half way point of the season.
“A number of crucial players have committed their future to the club together with the management duo of Ricky Hulbert and Lewis Porter. Attendance have more than doubled this season and there is a real feeling of positivity around Meadow Lane going into 2023.
“A new Ladies’ team has been formed in the town on the success of the women’s Euro 2022 triumph in the summer of 2022 and they immediately entered the Wiltshire Ladies’ Premier League where they have also started with a bang and proudly sit in fourth place going into the winter break.
“Westbury United Veterans side has been formed during 2022 and currently play in the Wiltshire Mid West Veterans League and again sit fourth approaching Christmas.
“The club is very keen to keep building on all fronts and more improvements to the ground are expected as the 2023 rolls in.
“2023 starts with a huge bang when Melksham are the visitors to Meadow Lane on Monday January 2nd for a huge local Derby fixture with a 1pm kick off.”
