Almondsbury got the better of Westbury at the howling gale at windswept Meadow Lane to record their 3rd victory of the season over United.
This was a disappointing effort by the hosts and they never got into any kind of attacking stride while always looking susceptible in defence.
Both keepers made straightforward early saves, UWE’s Matt Semple to deny Dan Moore and United’s Charlie Heydon when Alex Bisp looked like scoring, but the rest of the half was largely uneventful although it was lit up by James Archer’s fine low 25 yard strike to open the scoring on 29 minutes.
Westbury were guilty of wasting several set pieces as half time approached, quite a frustration for those watching when four big men were up at corner kicks!
The hosts knack of conceding straight after half time reared its’ head again when Dan Lane nipped in to head Joe Black’s set piece past Charlie Heydon on 48.
UWE continued to dominate and, just a minute after Lane had volleyed over the bar, the 3rd goal was scored by the impressive Ryan Gourley with a fine finish on 58.
The closest United came to a consolation was when their best move of the match ended with Dan Moore’s shot being saved by Matt Semple and Nathan Hallett-Young had a header cleared off the line at a rare 2nd half corner kick.
