UNITED suffered a home defeat but things could have been so different.
New beginnings in chairmanship and management for Westbury and they made a superb start when Marc Lanfear rifled in a stunning 30 yarder on 20 minutes! However when Gary Tugwell saw red eight minutes later for an ugly challenge on Aaron Allen the game changed as United’s 10 men were unable to hold out much past half time.
The match got off to an end to end start with Matt Mead and Lanfear going close for the hosts while Leon Britton found Callum Hotine’s left hand post.
There seemed little danger to the visitors when Lanfear received the ball 30 yards from goal but the he unleashed an unstoppable screamer that flew into the top corner!
Lanfear then conspired to fire over the bar from inside the 6 yard box and the game changing moment came soon after when Tugwell jumped in 2 footed on Allen and was sent off.
Chances continued to come at both ends before half time with Simon Millard going on a long run before setting up Steven Bryant whose attempt was blocked while at the other end Hotine did well to deny Liam McCaughey and Callum Biggins.
Soon after the break Lee Pitman equalised when he was allowed too much space inside the box and, after Hotine had saved Conor Biggin’s clever flick, further pressure told on 63 when Brendan Abood swept the ball in from 10 yards.
Adam Crooks sealed the points for the visitors with a rebound effort after Hotine had saved a long range free kick and the final goal came 5 minutes from the end when Leon Britton headed in Pitman’s corner. United kept playing good football and almost scored at the end when Millard’s corner fell to Grant Gunning and he hit a fierce shot that was excellently saved by Lewis Coombes.
