On April 14th, thirteen members of the Westbury Walkers met at the East Somerset Railway station for an 8.5 mile walk led by Jen Mayne and Sue Miluk.
It was a clear and bright but chilly day as they set off across fields to Dean and then climbed up on to the East Mendip Way. The route then took them on to the old Wells Road and field paths to reach the Foss Way, with a fallen tree to be negotiated en route. The walkers enjoyed a spectacular view of the Charlton Viaduct as they approached Shepton Mallett, where they stopped for lunch by the interestingly named Tickle Belly Cottage.
They then continued across ploughed fields alongside the River Sheppy towards Doulting and then onwards on a field path to Chelynch and back to Cranmore. The walk included no less than 23 stiles and several kissing gates. Report: Jan Mayne
