On Sunday the 9th June 14 members of the Westbury Walkers set out from Marshfield for an 8- mile walk led by Teressa and Brian Mitchard.
They started from Green Lane which they followed for a while before crossing a stile on the right and walking through the valleys below Cold Ashton Village. This eventually took them on to the Limestone Link, passing near Monkswood Reservoir, where they continued on more valley paths with views of St Catherine’s Court and into Oakford Lane.
The group took a short detour from the lane into Motcombe Wood to have a look at a lovely and secluded lake, which was surrounded by colourful rhododendrons and were surprised to see a full size canoe handcrafted from one solid piece of wood.
From here, taking a steep and in places, overgrown footpath up to Cherry Wood, they stopped for lunch whilst enjoying fine views down through the valley and to Bathford in the distance.
After a welcome break the group continued on, following enclosed tracks back to Green Lane and returning to their cars.
This was a particularly scenic walk and the generally fine weather made it a most enjoyable outing.
