Local people are being encouraged to get involved in cycling this month with a series of open rides led by the Westbury Wheelers cycling club.
The rides will take place on Saturday 11th, 18th and 25th April, starting at 2pm from Westbury Market Place. They are open to anyone interested in trying group road cycling. There will be a choice to complete a 7-mile ride, 13-mile ride or 20-mile ride.
“All rides will be led by experienced club members, helping riders gain confidence on the road while enjoying the social side of cycling,” said Sean Price, open ride leader.
“These rides are a fantastic opportunity for people to experience cycling in a friendly group. Whether you’re new to cycling, returning after some time away, or simply curious about riding with others, Westbury Wheelers would love to welcome you along.
“Riders simply need a road‑worthy road bike or hybrid bike and a helmet.”
The first two rides are free to attend, with riders only needing to become members of Westbury Wheelers if they take part in a third ride.
“Following each ride, participants are invited to join club members for an informal debrief and social gathering at The Crown in Westbury, where experienced cyclists will be happy to answer questions about bikes, group riding and getting more involved in the sport,” said Sean.
“Westbury Wheelers are keen to support young cyclists wherever possible. Unaccompanied riders under 18 who wish to attend should contact the club in advance.
“Where possible, the club will aim to assign a DBS‑checked ride leader, although availability cannot be guaranteed. A parent or guardian will need to complete a consent form and meet the ride leader prior to the ride.”
There is no need to book, riders can just turn up to Westbury Market Place on the day to take part.
