ARE you a beginner cyclist, want to return to fitness or you just want a social bike ride? Then the ladies’ cycling six-week couch to 30K is for you. It’s is an entry level friendly cycling initiative set up by ladies, for ladies, as part of the Westbury Wheelers cycling club.

The initiative was set up by Izzy and Sandra who both started cycling in 2019 and have gone from ‘beginners to regular social cake eating cyclists’ with the help of the club.
Sandra says, “We know how intimidating joining a cycling club ride can seem and we want to debunk the myth that you need to be fit or have fancy equipment. The aim of this ‘Pink’ ride is to encourage more women to gain confidence in cycling in a like-minded pressure-free environment, as cycling offers a whole host of benefits – from physical and mental, to social perks.
“Our rides are starting every Saturday from 30th April 2pm at the Market Place, Westbury. We meet for a chat and the first ride will be ten miles long, with a café stop and we will go at the pace of the slowest person, so no one gets left behind. We will build the distance up to 20 miles over six weeks.
“The course will teach you to ride as a group in a safe way as well as some basic bike maintenance. Join us for three free trial rides and then you can join Westbury Wheelers for £17 per year for unlimited rides. Any bikes/ebikes welcome.”
This initiative is open to women age 16+. Helmets essential. Email sandrac230@gmail.com to sign up for a place. Once all places are filled, the organisers say they will start a waiting list for future courses.
