Westbury’s disappointing season continues

WESTBURY’S disappointing season continued on Saturday as they suffered another frustrating defeat, this time going down by six wickets to Potterne 2nd XI. 

Batting first, Westbury were bowled out for 158 from 36.5 overs after winning the toss and electing to bat first. Despite a number of useful contributions, Westbury were unable to build the substantial partnership they needed on a good batting surface. 

Javon Grosvenor was once again the standout performer with the bat, producing an excellent 47 from just 55 balls, including four fours and two sixes. Kane Scott also played an important innings, making 37, while Fraser Moore contributed 19 and captain Tom Lucas added 15. 

However, regular wickets prevented Westbury from establishing any kind of control of the innings. Potterne’s bowlers shared the wickets around, with Heshan Hettiarachchi claiming three wickets and Charlie Bevan and Oscar Fox taking two apiece. 

In reply, Potterne made steady progress towards their target. Westbury did manage to take four wickets, with Richard Oakley claiming two and Javon Grosvenor and Tom Lucas one each, but the home side were unable to apply enough pressure. 

Josh Hodder led the Potterne chase with an impressive 48, while Heshan Hettiarachchi remained unbeaten on 41. Olly Butterworth also made a valuable 30 as Potterne reached 162 for four from just 30.2 overs to secure victory.
