The community fridge at Leigh Park Community Centre which provides free surplus food to local people has closed.
The fridge was opened last year following the success of Westbury’s other community fridge on Eden Vale Road. However, it was announced last month that the second fridge, which was open daily from 8am until 8pm, has now closed.
“While the fridge operated for several months and supported many local residents, the level of ongoing input and volunteer capacity required proved difficult for the community centre to sustain,” said a spokesperson from Westbury Town Council, which supports Westbury Area Network (WAN) in running the fridges.
“We know how valued this service has been and understand this news will be disappointing.
“We are now working with Westbury Area Network to identify an alternative location and remain committed to reopening the fridge in a way that is sustainable and well-supported.”
It is understood that the fridge at Eden Vale Road will remain open from 10.30am until 11.30am every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.
