Residents in the electoral division of Ethandune are being encouraged to cast their votes in an upcoming Wiltshire Council unitary by-election.
The by-election for Ethandune takes place on 19th September and polls will be open from 7am – 10pm.
Wiltshire Council said, “The successful candidate will take their place as one of 98 unitary Wiltshire councillors, responsible for decision making that affects Wiltshire residents’ daily lives.
“The by-election is taking place due to the death of former cabinet member and Wiltshire Councillor Jerry Wickham who sadly passed away in July.”
Carlton Brand, Wiltshire’s returning officer, said, “I hope registered voters will make sure they vote to have their say. A councillor has a real impact on the area they represent. They provide that local perspective for decisions made by Wiltshire Council on the services provided to the money we spend – decisions which affect every member of our communities.
“As returning officer for Wiltshire, I would encourage people to make sure they vote as an engaged electorate helps us to ensure our county is as democratically healthy as possible.”
People have until 5pm on 4 September to apply for a postal vote for this election, and 5pm on 11 September to submit a new application to appoint a proxy to vote on their behalf.
