THE climate change plans of Wiltshire Council have been defended by the Conservative leader against opposition charges that they haven’t been updated for six years.
The core strategy document, the Climate Change Adaptation Action Plan, has not been revised since 2016 and has now been recommended for an update by the Climate Emergency Task Group.
Liberal Democrat leader, Ian Thorn, said council leader, Richard Clewer, as cabinet member for climate change, had something to answer for.
“It seems rather odd it’s not been updated,” he said. “There’s a very active climate emergency group and there are regular updates to the council on climate action, so I’m rather astonished that we seem to be lagging behind here.
“I think cllr Clewer needs to get focused on ensuring that document is appropriately updated.”
However, cllr Thorn added the council had done a lot to help the climate crisis.
Cllr Clewer, hit back at the accusations of lagging behind.
He said, “When you create a plan, it starts changing the moment you’ve written it. It’s much like the business plan, the moment you start implementing it, things start to change, but you don’t formally update it.”
