Wiltshire Council leader Ian Thorn has unveiled the council’s draft plan outlining the vision for the county over the next decade, saying, “The work begins now.”
The 2025-2035 draft Council Plan outlines a new vision for Wiltshire and focuses on the council working in partnership with empowered communities, rather than making changes through a ‘top-down’ approach.
In his foreword for the plan, Cllr Ian Thorn, Wiltshire Council Leader said, “This beginning of a Council Plan marks a turning point. It sets out a new and transformative vision for Wiltshire: one rooted in fairness, openness, and working together.
“We will be rethinking and transforming how we deliver services, how we measure success, and how we hold ourselves accountable through transparent performance monitoring to enhanced scrutiny, with a focus on fixing the problems that matter to you.
“This is not a plan that will sit on a shelf. It is a living framework, shaped by our values and guided by our engagement with residents. We invite every person in Wiltshire to take part so that they are not just beneficiaries but co-creators of a county that is greener, fairer, and more connected.”
Key priorities in the plan include: Supporting people to have fulfilling lives; protecting communities; making Wiltshire child-friendly and providing opportunities for all young people; enriching and protecting the environment for future generations; creating more accessible safer and greener transport; promoting healthier lives; making culture for everyone; building for our communities; helping the economy work for everyone; and empowering and working with communities.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Council said, “The plan affirms that Wiltshire Council will be an accountable organisation, transparent, financially responsible and data-led in the decisions it makes.
“The plan will be delivered and results measured annually, and the production of service delivery plans will ensure the council stays on track to achieve its aims. Progress reports on finance, risk and performance will also be provided quarterly to cabinet.”
The draft plan will be shared with councillors and the chairs of select committees.
There will be an opportunity for further engagement, before it goes forward for adoption at the full council meeting in October.
