WESTBURY is busy preparing for the World War 1 centenary which is happening this year to commemorate the start of the First World War.
Specialist talks, historic exhibitions, research into local soldiers of the Great War and restoration of the town’s war memorials are just some of the plans that the Westbury area has for commemorating World War One.
Council leader Jane Scott outlined Wiltshire- wide plans for the special anniversary when she attended Westbury area board.
They include a county- wide event with the military on 30th July, a programme of education and a range of local commemorative events.
Also planned is the restoration of the Fovant military hill badges, the cutting of a new badge and a concert at Salisbury cathedral.
A special working group has been set up in Westbury to coordinate the activities to mark the WWI commemoration. If you have an event you are planning please email info@westburytowncouncil.gov.uk.
