Young people launch new live music project

A new series of live music events organised with and for young people is launching in Westbury. 

Future Sound of Westbury is a youth project that will give young people the opportunity to organise, promote and help run a series of gigs for other young people, while showcasing local bands and artists across a range of genres.  

Participants will gain experience in roles including lighting and sound production, event photography, marketing, graphic design and ticket sales. 

The project is supported by funding from the Westbury Area Board and delivered in collaboration with partner organisations. 

The first event will take place as part of Westbury Festival on Wednesday 22nd July at 7.30pm in the function room at The Crown Inn. West Country band Chasing Dolls will headline, with local performer Rob Scull also appearing in addition to a special guest.

Festival chair Lisa McGowan said, “The festival is proud to champion emerging talent through The Future Sound of Westbury, showcasing some of the best local bands and giving audiences the chance to discover the stars of tomorrow.” 

Cllr Mike Phillips, Chair of the Westbury Area Board and youth lead, said, “I’m very excited to announce the Future Sound of Westbury project which will provide an exciting and worthwhile opportunity for young musicians and their supporters to design, market, sell tickets, prepare the venue and run the event with support from the organisers. 

“The model is based on a successful project in Trowbridge and will pull in the experience of that project.” 

The first event is free to attend.
